our core beliefs
We believe in the Trinity: The Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit all existing in One. All being equal and all being God.
We believe that we are all sinners, all in need of a Savior, and Jesus was and is the propitiation, the substitute, for our sins.
We believe there is a hell. Jesus Christ, believing in Jesus Christ, is the only way to escape the torment of hell. By believing we mean that if one believes in Christ, then he picks up his cross daily, he is a new creation, old things have passed away and all things become new. This results in our becoming more like Jesus.
We believe in the Holy Bible being the true inspired Word of God. It is incapable of error, and no error exists in it. It was written through men by the Holy Spirit working through them. There are no other Holy Scriptures.
We believe the fullness of God, the Holy Spirit, resides in us the very moment that we accept Christ into our lives. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead resides in us.
We believe that only those who accept Christ are our brothers and sisters, however, everyone else is our neighbor and we are to love our neighbors as ourselves.
We believe the sacraments ordained by God for His followers are to receive communion, which we do monthly, baptism which we do yearly, and marriage which is between a man and a woman. We believe that water baptism isn't necessary for salvation, but very important in one's committment to Christ.
Accountability. We are accountable for our actions, and we can't use the excuse "the devil made me do it"! We are not perfect, but should be quick to repent, quick to forgive, and quick to love.
Our Vision
Our vision is to grow in Christ Jesus. Being "saved" isn't just saying a prayer, but it's denying yourself and picking up our cross daily" and following Christ. (Matt. 16:24-26).
This means not just "saying" you follow Christ, but becoming more like Christ in your thoughts, actions, and deeds. Following Christ, to become more like Christ, to have Christ be the focus of your life and pleasing Him is more important than pleasing yourself.
As we grow in Christ, we follow the mandate given by Jesus in Matthew 28, "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you" cannot be ignored. We believe that people need saved from their sins, but also discipled. This is our mandate to the people in Africa, Haiti and the neighbor across the street.
We support financially and prayerfully two overseas missions, which are described in our "Outreach" section. We also support local ministries as well. Feel free to explore these Godly ministries.
We desire to be the hands and feet of Christ. To be a visible example of the love of Christ.
Who We are
We are a body of believers that love the Lord Jesus and desire a closer personal relationship with Him. We are called to become disciples, and to make disciples throughout all the world.
As the Apostle Paul says in Romans 1:16- "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek ..."
We believe that going to church doesn't make you any more of a Christian than going to McDonald's makes you a hamburger. But we believe that we are to follow the mandate set forth in Hebrews 10:25. "Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching".
Regular church attendance is necessary to not just hear the Word and grow in Christ, but also to help your brothers and sisters. Even if it's a smile or a pat on the back or a prayer, we are to be assembled together to encourage one another.
We observe the sacrament of the Lord's Table, communion, which we celebrate on the first Sunday of each month. We believe in the sacrament of Holy matrimony between a Christian man and a Christian woman.
All are welcome in Grace In The Wilderness Fellowship. But note that we don't "play church".
We take the command of Jesus very seriously when He said in Luke 9:23,24- "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it."
